Supply, Demand & Anxiety

Here's a number worth sitting with before your calendar fills up any further: May, September, June, October, and August together account for more than two-thirds of all weddings booked — with May (15.5%) and September (15.4%) essentially tied for the top spot nationally.
The Squeeze Is Real, and It's Measurable
That concentration is exactly why the vendors who look "fully booked" aren't necessarily the most in-demand; they're often just the ones who never built real capacity limits. A few data points worth knowing as you plan the next few months:
68% of couples book their photographer more than 12 months out, and top photographers in peak-season markets are typically booked 14–18 months ahead for May-through-October Saturdays
The average wedding now involves 13 vendors (down from 15 in 2019) fewer total slots per wedding, which means more competition for the same weekends among the vendors left standing
45% of photography packages now include a second shooter, adding 150–300 extra images per wedding , a sign that even photographers are actively building capacity rather than just working longer hours
That last stat is the important one. The vendors scaling successfully aren't the ones grinding through more Saturdays solo ; they're the ones who figured out how to add capacity without diluting what a client is actually paying for.
Ways to Build Capacity Before You Need It
Set a real ceiling, in writing, before peak season pressure makes the decision for you. Decide the maximum weddings you'll take per week and per month based on what you can deliver at full quality, then hold that line even when a great inquiry comes in over it. A referral out is better for your reviews than a rushed job in.
Build your second-tier team now, not in June. Whether that's a trained second shooter, an associate planner, or a subcontracted assistant, the 45% benchmark above shows this is already standard practice, the businesses without a bench are the ones who either turn away money or burn out delivering it.
Working with a wedding planner can also give you and your team capacity back. Have a couple that could benefit from our planning services? Send them our way for a free consultation by clicking below:
